2026 City budget Economy and events media release

The City is investing $146 million in the economy and events in 2026-27, strengthening the Gold Coast's position as a leading destination for entertainment and business.

Mayor Tom Tate said $89 million has been allocated to support three of the City's controlled and funded entities, strengthening the local economy and backing more than 83,200 registered local businesses.

The controlled entities include Invest Gold Coast, Brand Gold Coast and Experience Gold Coast.

"These entities play a crucial role in identifying and delivering opportunities that support the future growth of our local economy," Mayor Tate said.

The City is also continuing to invest in nature-based tourism, with $4.8 million allocated to support operators showcasing the Gold Coast's unique natural environment in a sensitive and sustainable way.

"We are one of Australia's most ecologically diverse cities, and our nature-based tourism initiatives reflect the City's commitment to preserving our natural environment," Mayor Tate said.

Funding has also been allocated to repurpose the Surfers Paradise Transit Centre into the Gold Coast Civic and Music Hall.

"The Music Hall will deliver ongoing economic benefits for the city, with design and construction expected to contribute around $16 million to the local economy over three years," Mayor Tate said.
