City Is Only Place To Be This Australia Day

There is so much to do in the city this Australia Day and it all begins at 7:30 am in Elder Park / Tarntanya Wama.

Mourning in the Morning continues to create a respectful and inclusive ceremony that is led and shaped by South Australian First Nations community leaders.

The community is invited to gather at 7:30 am on Monday for a welcome to Kaurna country, followed by First Nations speakers, musicians, dancers, and interactive activities grounded in respect. The event features a smoking ceremony conducted by Elder Uncle Moogy Sumner.

Aus Lights on the River, proudly supported by the City of Adelaide, will commence from 7:00 pm this year due to the forecast heat. Organisers have also implemented additional heat mitigation measures across the site, including increased shaded areas, misting stations, and readily accessible free drinking water, to support community comfort.

A Fireworks display begins at 9:30 pm.

Council continues to support Australia Day events within the city as it has for many years. This includes an investment of $180,000 to support the activities within Elder Park. Council will ensure Elder Park is well presented, as well as managing the road closure for the parade and cleaning up afterwards.
