City of Ballarat Programs and People Acknowledged Among finest

City of Ballarat programs and people have been named finalists in National and State Awards that recognise excellence, leadership and outstanding contribution. 

Ballarat's Creative City Strategy is a finalist in the National Economic Development Awards and the 2019 Victorian Premier Design Awards.

The project will compete for top honours in the highly competitive 'Strategic Thinking' category at a national level, with award winners announced in Adelaide on October 24. The Victorian Premier's Awards (Design Strategy category) will be announced on 21 November.

 Ballarat's Creative Precinct Master Plan is among 52 projects shortlisted in the 2019 Australian Urban Design Awards, the nation's premier awards for excellence and innovation in urban design. The awards recognise contemporary Australian urban design of the highest quality and aim to encourage cities, towns and communities across the country to strive for best practice. The nomination is in the category for leadership, advocacy and research - local and neighbourhood scale. 

The City of Ballarat Children's Services team has also been named a finalist in the 2019 Victorian Early Years Awards, for the Emeritus Professor Collette Tayler Excellence in the 'Educational Leadership' category.  

 The nomination is for the development of a Children's Services Practice Guide for Educators in Action, assisting educators to become more confident in sharing ideas and opinions to deliver improved childhood education at the City's expanding early childhood facilities.  

The 20 finalists were nominated for their outstanding contributions to the early childhood sector across Victoria. Award winners will be announced on 22 October. 

  And Council's Co-ordinator Environmental Services, Louise Turner has been recognised by the Municipal Works Officers Association, with an overseas scholarship to further study waste and recycling practices.
