City of Parramatta seeks public input on boundary amendment

The NSW Department of Customer Service

The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on a proposal by City of Parramatta Council to amend existing suburb boundaries in its LGA.

Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said feedback is being sought on the proposal to amend the suburb boundaries between Sydney Olympic Park and Wentworth Point.

Council has advised that the 'Sanctuary' development site is physically adjacent to the retail hub of Wentworth Point at the northern tip of the peninsular.

The 'Sanctuary' is an outlying community isolated from the Sydney Olympic Park civic centre. It has closer ties to the community of Wentworth Point and its residents are more invested in the development of the Wentworth Point community than Sydney Olympic Park.

A boundary adjustment will also provide clarity of navigation, deliveries, wayfinding, and emergency services response times.

The Board is encouraging community comment before it considers the proposal.

Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website.

Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.

The closing date for submissions is 11 May 2023.

Quotes to be attributed to Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood

"We want to give everyone an opportunity to be heard and provide their feedback on this proposed boundary amendment."

"It is important that suburb boundaries are easy to identify and make sense to the community. It is also crucial the community is consulted on matters such as these as changes to suburb boundaries can affect service delivery such as the post office."
