A $10 million program to deliver female changeroom facilities at community sporting clubs across the Gold Coast is underway, supporting rapid growth in women's participation in sport.
Mayor Tom Tate said construction on the new modular buildings will begin mid-year, featuring toilets, showers and change facilities for female competitors.
"Female participation in sport is at an all-time high, growing on the Gold Coast by almost 50 percent since 2021," Mayor Tate said.
"This increase has highlighted a need to modernise sporting facilities beyond the traditional male oriented design."
The City assessed 18 team sports and identified AFL, football, rugby league, rugby union and cricket as those with the highest levels of growing female participation.
From this assessment, 8 clubs across the 5 sports were selected to receive modular changerooms as part of stage 1.
"Participation and spectatorship in women's sport will continue to grow in the lead‑up to Brisbane 2032, which is why we are investing in these facilities now," Mayor Tate said.
"We've seen spectators filling Gold Coast stadium recently for the AFC Women's Asian Cup and programs like this ensure females have the facilities they need to both participate and excel."
Clubs receiving modular changeroom as part of Stage 1:
- Merv Craig Sporting Complex - Currumbin Eagles Rugby League Football Club
- Coomera Sports Park - Coomera Crushers Rugby Union Club
- Robina Common - Robina City Soccer Club
- Mallawa Sports Complex - Palm Beach Soccer Club
- Coomera Sports Park - Coomera Cutters Rugby League Club
- Robert Dalley Park - Helensvale Hornets Rugby League Football Club
- Coplicks Family Sports Park - Tallebudgera Tigers Football Club
- Hession Park - Helensvale Pacific Pines Hawkes Cricket Club.
$10 million has been allocated this financial year to accelerate the rollout of modular changerooms.
Planning is underway to identify additional sporting clubs requiring dedicated female facilities with further investment committed for future stages.
