The City of Greater Geelong has lodged its submission for the 2026-27 Victorian State Budget, calling for critical regional infrastructure, initiatives to support community wellbeing, and targeted policy reform.
The submission, co-signed by Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM and chief executive Ali Wastie, highlights the need for a budget response to the challenges faced by the region's rapid population growth.
It also calls for continued partnership between the City and the Victorian Government to ensure that the region can unlock its full potential.
The key focus areas of the submission include transport infrastructure upgrades across the entire municipality, with special attention on the transport links to Avalon Airport, including the need for upgrades to Beach Road.
Urban renewal in central Geelong is also called for, along with enhanced sports and recreation infrastructure, initiatives to support community health and well-being, and policy reforms to facilitate local, fair, and sustainable delivery of statewide initiatives.
