City Welcomes New Division 1 Councillor

Townsville's newest councillor Michelle Hobson has officially taken a declaration of office, being sworn in by Townsville City Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Annaliese Battista in a Special Council Meeting today.

Ms Hobson has been elected to represent Division 1, which stretches from Mutarnee and Paluma in the north to Hervey Range and Bohle Plains in the south, in the recent by-election.

The election was completed by postal vote on September 19 this year, and the Electoral Commission of Queensland officially declared Ms Hobson as the representative for Division 1 on October 1.

Mayor Nick Dametto welcomed Ms Hobson to her new role during today's Special Council Meeting.

"I'd like to extend my congratulations to Michelle on her appointment as councillor for Division 1. I'm looking forward to working with Michelle as part of our Council to ensure Townsville's continued growth," Cr Dametto said.

"Division 1 is a large and diverse part of our city, and I'm sure residents will be pleased to once again have a dedicated voice representing them at the Council table."

Ms Hobson's career includes a background in business leadership, community engagement and health advocacy.
