Claremont Men's Shed a boost to men's health

  • New Claremont Men's Shed officially opened by Premier Mark McGowan

  • Premier Mark McGowan today officially opened the Showgrounds Community Men's Shed, which will support the physical and mental wellbeing of seniors within Claremont and nearby suburbs.

    The State Government, through Lotterywest, provided a $120,000 grant towards equipment, a refurbished work area, meeting room and a kitchen for the Claremont-based Men's Shed.

    The shed will offer a variety of activities including woodworking, gardening, cooking and computer lessons.

    A meeting room within the shed will host monthly health information sessions, with an emphasis on early detection and ongoing health care.

    Currently, the shed has around 150 members with plans for this number to almost double within the next year. 

    As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

    "Men's Sheds provide a hands-on approach that supports the physical and wellbeing needs of its members, primarily seniors.

    "I am delighted to see this wonderful community hub available to those living in Claremont and neighbouring suburbs.

    "Men's Sheds throughout Western Australia have a positive impact not only on their members, but they also provide a beneficial resource to nearby community groups."
