Clarence Valley Council has appointed Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) as the incoming operator of its waste and resource recovery services, with a planned transition to commence from 1 May 2026.
Under the arrangement, RRA will take on the operation of eight waste and resource recovery facilities across the Clarence Valley, working closely with Council and the existing service arrangements to ensure a smooth and orderly transition for residents, businesses and visitors.
RRA will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of the facilities, supporting Council's objectives for environmentally responsible waste management and improved resource recovery outcomes.
Resource Recovery Australia is a certified not for profit social enterprise and registered charity that partners with local councils across Australia to deliver waste management services while also creating positive social outcomes. Through its #WASTE2WAGES program, RRA provides local employment and accredited training opportunities for people facing barriers to work, supporting individuals to build skills, confidence and long term employment pathways.
The Clarence Valley contract is expected to support up to 22 local team members across the eight facilities, with roles focused on site supervision, customer service and resource recovery operations.
The facilities included in the contract are:
- Grafton Waste Transfer and Recycling Facility
- Maclean Waste Transfer and Recycling Centre
- Copmanhurst Waste Transfer Station
- Glenreagh Waste Transfer Station
- Tyringham Waste Transfer Station
- Baryulgil Transfer Facility
- Iluka Waste Transfer Station
- Minnie Water Waste Transfer Station
Clarence Valley Council Director of Environment and Planning, Adam Cameron said:

RRA will work closely with Clarence Valley Council throughout the transition period to ensure the community is well informed and supported. The change represents an operational transition only, with no changes to opening hours for waste facilities.
