Contracts Awarded for Meekatharra, Albany Health Projects

  • National company Hutchinson Builders awarded design and construct contract for Albany and Meekatharra hospital works
  • Works will significantly improve services at the two hospitals
  • Use of modulars to reduce construction timeframe and minimise disruptions to hospital operations
  • Both projects are part of the Cook Labor Government's $5.5 billion health infrastructure program, helping expand access to care in regional communities

The Cook Labor Government has awarded Hutchinson Builders the design and construct contract for the $60 million, 32-bed Albany Health Campus expansion and18 the $73.4 million Meekatharra Hospital redevelopment.

Hutchinson Builders was selected based on its proven experience delivering modular health construction projects and operating in regional environments.

The $73.4 Meekatharra Hospital redevelopment includes a modern emergency department with three treatment spaces, a resuscitation bay and a mental health assessment room; an acute inpatient unit with five inpatient beds including a bariatric bed and a palliative care suite and new renal dialysis services.

At Albany Health Campus, the $60 million project will deliver a new 32-bed modular ward to increase capacity to meet growing healthcare demand.

The ward will feature a mix of single and twin-bed rooms, along with a dedicated bariatric room and an isolation room to support a range of patient care needs.

To reduce construction times and minimise disruptions to operations, modular components will be built off site by Hutchinson Builders, transported to the hospitals and assembled on site.

Both the Albany and Meekatharra redevelopment projects are being designed by MODE Architecture.

Together, these projects form part of the Cook Labor Government's record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure, strengthening healthcare access across regional Western Australia and ensuring communities receive high-quality care closer to where they live.

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

"We're getting on with delivering modern health facilities for the communities of Meekatharra and Albany, with Hutchinson Builders now appointed to construct these important projects.

"By bundling these projects into a single procurement process and adopting modular construction, we are supporting a more efficient delivery model that helps reduce construction delays and maximise value for taxpayers.

"We are putting WA first through our record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure, meaning more Western Australians can receive the healthcare they need, close to where they live."

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"These major hospital projects in Albany and Meekatharra will deliver modern, fit-for-purpose facilities that will improve access to care for regional communities and support our health workforce.

"This is about increasing capacity and enhancing patient care, ensuring people can access high-quality healthcare closer to home.

"These investments are part of the Cook Labor Government's record $5.5 billion health infrastructure program, which is delivering critical upgrades across WA."
