Climate Action Plan Implementation Plan Adoption

We're rolling out new climate actions

We've developed a new plan to tackle climate change over the next 2 years and help Council and the community meet our emissions targets.

Councillors endorsed the next Climate Action Plan Implementation Plan for 2025-26 and 2026-27 at last night's Services Delegated Committee meeting. This decision reinforces our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.

About the new plan

Across our community, many people and businesses are already making changes to reduce their emissions. This plan represents a significant increase in our commitment to support this positive momentum and help it grow even further.

The new plan includes actions we'll deliver on our own, in partnership with our community or with other organisations. It offers targeted support to help residents, businesses and Council cut emissions and tackle climate change together as a community.

Some key actions include:

  • Exploring opportunities to offer financial support for residential electrification in Boroondara.
  • Expanding electric vehicle charging across Boroondara by installing more public chargers in popular locations.
  • Educating our community about climate adaptation.
  • Providing information and workshops about practical, simple and cost-effective ways to save energy.
  • Transitioning Council's vehicle fleet to electric or other low-emission alternatives, like hybrid cars.
  • Continuing to improve the energy efficiency of Council buildings.
  • Working together with volunteers and community groups to deliver programs and events.
  • Tracking and sharing emissions data from both Council and the community.

What we've achieved so far

Since September 2021, our Climate Action Plan has guided our efforts in tackling climate change together.

Over the past 4 years, we've made steady progress, delivering initiatives including:

Climate Action Plan Advisory Committee

As we developed the new plan, we worked closely with industry experts and community groups at every stage to stay aligned on our shared goals. The Climate Action Plan Advisory Committee played an important role by providing advice to support the design of the plan, and will continue to do so as we carry out these actions.
