Climate change - Mayor calls for better federal support

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council Mayor, Claire Pontin, is part of a group of 31 mayors and councillors from flood-affected areas asking the federal government to take a more strategic approach to extreme weather events.

"As a community, we have faced devastating droughts, floods and bushfires over the past few years – and we're still recovering. We can expect more of this. We need better assistance from the federal government so we can respond to disasters faster, recover more quickly, and fix our damaged infrastructure properly," Mayor Pontin said. "I call on the Commonwealth to do more to protect lives, property and livelihoods from the effects of climate change."
