Two climbers and their rescuers have been winched to safety after spending the night in the Warrumbungles.
A multi-agency operation was launched yesterday after an EPIRB was activated at Crater Bluff near Coonabarabran about 1pm yesterday (Saturday 9 May 2026).
The men were 150m up Cornerstone Rib when one was hit in the head by a falling rock. The 61-year-old man suffered cuts and a suspected concussion.
He and his climbing partner managed to reach a ledge and activated an EPIRB.
Officers from Police Rescue and two Critical Care Paramedics were winched to the top of the Bluff by PolAir with both climbers brought to the top of the Bluff and treated.
Climbers and rescuers remained in-situ overnight before being winched out about 8am (Sunday 10 May 2026), by the TOLL helicopter crew.
The injured climber was taken to Coonabarabran Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
It's understood the climbers are from Victoria.
