The Finocchiaro CLP Government is supporting essential services in regional areas of the Territory, opening 3 new Power and Water regional facilities across the Territory.

The 2 facilities in Katherine include an award-winning visiting staff accommodation complex, and a training room and emergency operations hub. The Tennant Creek facility provides modern accommodation for visiting Power and Water staff.

Each project was delivered in partnership with local Aboriginal Business Enterprise, JKJ Constructions NT, creating regional jobs, strengthening building capability and supporting local economic participation.

Minister for Essential Services Steve Edgington said the $3.15 million facilities were part of the CLP Government's plan to support essential services in regional areas of the NT.

'In our year of growth, certainty and security, these new facilities are a practical investment in essential services in regional areas like the Barkly and Katherine.

"By providing safe, purpose-built accommodation for visiting Power and Water employees and a regional training hub closer to where Power and Water regional teams operate, we are delivering certainty and security for essential workers in our regional areas.

"The facilities in Katherine have already proven their worth, used during the recent emergency response.

"These facilities cut fatigue, boost wellbeing and ensure faster responses when Territorians need support.

"Partnering with a local Aboriginal Business Enterprise to deliver these projects has also supported local jobs and industry and helped keep investment in the regional communities Power and Water operate in," Mr Edgington said.

The Katherine Region Accommodation project won the 2025 Housing Industry Association (NT) Award for Small Commercial Project, recognising the quality of construction and the strength of its collaborative delivery model.

Both the accommodation complexes in Tennant Creek ($1.3 million) and Katherine ($1.1 million) will provide safe, modern and secure accommodation for visiting operational staff and visiting specialists in remote communities, significantly improving staff safety, comfort and wellbeing.

The Katherine Region Training Room and Emergency Operations Centre ($750,000) will provide a fit-for-purpose regional training environment and emergency operations space.

Positioning teams in the communities Power and Water serve enables faster, regionally led emergency responses, particularly during major and severe weather events like recently seen across the Territory.

Reducing travel for training and operational readiness ensures Power and Water staff remain prepared, connected, and ready to act at short notice and minimises fatigue.

Jawoyn artwork features prominently in both Katherine facilities, driving local Aboriginal jobs and showcasing culture.
