Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission

Today, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced the Commission's decision to amend the licensing basis for the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station to authorize the operation of Bruce B Units 7 and 8 up to 310,000 effective full power hours (EFPH). Bruce Power was previously authorized to operate Bruce B Units 7 and 8 up to 300,000 EFPH.

The Bruce Nuclear Generating Station is located in the Municipality of Kincardine in Bruce County, Ontario, on the traditional and treaty territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, the traditional harvesting territories of the Métis Nation of Ontario Region 7, and the Historic Saugeen Métis peoples.

In making its decision, the Commission considered submissions from Bruce Power, CNSC staff and 9 intervenors. The Commission determined that Bruce Power is qualified to carry on the licensed activities that the amended licensing basis will authorize and that the health and safety of people and the environment will be protected.
