Bayside Gallery has kicked off the new year by shining a light on the exceptional work of artists who create and live, work or study in the Bayside area.
The Gallery welcomed visitors eager to see the recent works of our talented community, at the opening event earlier today. Attendees had the opportunity to meet and discover emerging artists, reconnect with established names, and reflect on the breadth of artistic practice that continues to grow across our suburbs.
Showcasing two exhibitions, Bayside Local (31 January - 1 March) brings together a diverse mix of works from traditional landscape painting to textile pieces, photographic images and experimental ceramic forms.
It's companion show, Target: Bayside Art and Design students (31 January - 25 February), features the work of Bayside's distinguished VCE and International Baccalaureate (IB) students in Years 11 and 12. These emerging artists offer valuable insights into current trends in contemporary art with fresh perspectives and notable confidence.
A highlight of the opening event was the presentation of the three Mayor's Student Encouragement Awards - awarded to students in recognition of their high calibre and technical expertise.

Congratulations to this year's recipients:
- PJ M, Firbank Grammar, with her photographic series Reflections of identity
- Stefan B, Brighton Grammar, with his painting Square eyes
- Eloise E, Firbank Grammar, with her painting installation One person's trash…
Whether you're an art enthusiast, a proud local, or simply looking for inspiration, these exhibitions offer a vibrant and engaging way to start the year.
