Community Climate Action Protecting Coral Reefs

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

People across Australia are being empowered to take simple, yet powerful action to protect coral reefs from climate change.

The CoralWatch 'What Can I Do' platform identifies actions that anyone can take to reduce carbon emissions and help protect reefs.

It allows you to:

  • create a personal action plan to reduce emissions
  • understand the different impact of actions
  • discover new strategies and resources
  • inspire others to make a difference

Since January 2025:

  • 1011 people have engaged in the platform
  • 2,851 tonnes of CO2 have been avoided, the equivalent of taking over 1301 cars off the road

Climate change is the biggest threat to coral reefs worldwide. The actions we take in our communities can help reduce emissions and protect our reefs.

Join us in caring for our reefs. It only takes a few minutes to create your personal action plan and help preserve our reefs.

This work is funded by the partnership between the Australian Government's Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. It is also funded by the University of Queensland.
