Campaspe Shire Council is inviting local community organisations, clubs, and service groups to submit an Expression of Interest to host an Australia Day activity or event in Echuca in 2027.
Council is seeking proposals that bring the community together to reflect, respect and celebrate Australia Day in a welcoming and inclusive way. Council will provide the successful applicant with support, in line with previous Australia Day celebrations, to help cover costs such as equipment hire, awards, food and beverages. Expressions of Interest are now open and close on 13 September 2026.
Council acknowledges and sincerely thanks the Echuca Rotary Club for the many years of work, organisation and volunteer effort invested in delivering Echuca's Australia Day celebrations. Their contribution has helped create a valued community tradition. As Rotary steps away from hosting the event, Council welcomes interest from organisations wishing to continue a similar celebration, while also encouraging innovative ideas and new event concepts that reflect the interests and diversity of our community.
Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell said Australia Day celebrations are strongest when they are led by the community.
"Australia Day is an opportunity for our community to come together, connect with one another and celebrate what makes Echuca such a special place to live.
"Our local community groups play a vital role in creating meaningful events, and we're keen to hear from organisations with ideas that bring people together," he said.
Cr Mackrell said Council was committed to supporting local groups to deliver successful events.
"Whether it's a traditional community gathering, family-focused event or something entirely new, we encourage organisations to put forward their ideas.
"The successful group will be supported through funding, promotion and event resources to help create a memorable Australia Day experience for the Echuca community," added the mayor.
Council support available to successful applicants includes access to in-kind event equipment, provision of Australia Day materials, and coordination of Councillor attendance where requested. Activities should be safe, accessible, family friendly and respectful of the diverse experiences and cultures within the community.
