Cessnock City Council is pleased to announce that the upgrade to Maybury Peace Park Play Space is complete and open for the enjoyment of the local community. The upgrade included the installation of inclusive play equipment, nature play elements, and landscaping to the site.

In 2021, Council engaged with the community to develop a Masterplan of Maybury Peace Park, which was adopted in May of the same year.

Funding for the project was identified via application to the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 4. Council was successful in obtaining a $300,000 grant to undertake the upgrade to Maybury Peace Play Space.

Construction of the project was undertaken by Open Space and Community Facilities outdoor teams and Play Space contractors. The teams were happy to report that the upgrade was successfully completed ahead of schedule and within budget.

To celebrate the upgrade of Maybury Peace Play Space, an opening day will be held on Wednesday 22 February 2023 at 10am.

Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal said improving our local parks and playgrounds was one of his priorities as Mayor and he was excited to see the community enjoy the new facilities.

"Maybury Peace Park has always been so popular within the community, and the recent upgrade has definitely taken this much-loved park to a new level," Mayor Suvaal said.

"I encourage the local community to come and experience the new upgrades with their families—there is something for everyone to enjoy."

This project is made possible thanks to the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund Round Four, receiving funding of $300,000 to undertake works on the Park.
