Community invited to explore UC via virtual Open Day

School students from Canberra and the surrounding regions will be able to take their first step in their university experience at the University of Canberra's virtual Open Day on Saturday 11 September.

Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to explore the University's Bruce campus from the comfort of their home via the dedicated Open Day virtual offering.

Once registered, participants will be able to book in one-on-one virtual consultations with academic staff members to find out more about their degree of interest. There will be live stream sessions with UC experts sharing information on how to apply, pathway programs, fees, scholarships and more. A live chat function will be available for attendees to ask current students and staff their questions about studying and living at UC.

"The health and safety of UC staff and students, and the broader ACT community is our priority, and by running our Open Day in a virtual environment, we can ensure that anyone who wants to attend can do so, regardless of where they live," said Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President Academic, Professor Geoff Crisp.

"In addition to our standard Open Day services, we are offering a unique opportunity for school leavers to speak to our academic staff one-on-one. This is helpful for those who want to make sure that their degree choice is right for them."

Attendees will have access to a library of course information videos before and after Open Day through the UC On Demand facility, where academic staff explain how UC's courses prepare students for their future success.

UC's Open Day is not only for school leavers, but for those curious about returning to study. In addition to all the online events and UC On Demand videos, those looking at postgraduate studies will have the opportunity to book personalised consultations with Careers UC, Higher Degree by Research students, and our postgraduate academics.

"The UC campus is always a hive of activity under normal circumstances, and it is our intention to offer an on-campus event at some point later in this year, should it be considered safe to do so," said Professor Crisp.

"Although our campus looks slightly different at the moment, we are delighted to be offering an Open Day experience to our future students, so that they do not miss out on important aspects of the University experience."
