Greater Shepparton residents, businesses and visitors are encouraged to join Council representatives at two upcoming community listening post sessions as part of the Returning Our City to the River consultation currently underway.
The listening posts will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the project, ask questions and share their ideas for the future of Shepparton's city centre, Goulburn River corridor and Victoria Park Lake.
The Returning Our City to the River project aims to strengthen connections between the Shepparton CBD, Goulburn River and Victoria Park Lake, helping create a more vibrant, accessible and connected destination for residents, businesses and visitors.
The community is invited to visit either of the following listening posts:
- Shepparton CBD - Maude Street stage
- Saturday 24 October 2026
- 10.00am to 12.00pm
- Victoria Park Lake - BBQ area near the skate park
- Monday 26 October 2026
- 6.00pm to 7.30pm
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Geoff Akers, encouraged community members to take advantage of the opportunity to speak directly with project representatives.
"This project is about understanding what our community values most about these important places and how we can better connect them into one cohesive destination," he said.
"The listening posts are a great opportunity to have a conversation, share your experiences and ideas, and help shape a future vision for our city centre, river and lake. Whether you live, work, own a business, study or spend time in these areas, we want to hear your thoughts and understand what is important to you."
Council is seeking feedback on how people currently use these spaces, what they enjoy most about them and what opportunities they would like to see explored in the future. Feedback gathered through the consultation will help inform future priorities, actions and investment opportunities for the project.
Cr Fern Summer, Yanha Gurtji Ward, said the listening posts were an important way to engage directly with community.
"Whether you enjoy a walk around Victoria Park Lake, spend time along the river, own a business in the CBD or simply visit the city centre, your experiences and ideas matter," she said.
"We are after real conversations about what makes Shepparton special and what could make it even better."
Community members can also participate by completing the online survey on Council's Shaping Greater Shepp website until Sunday 8 November 2026.
