Community To Shape Sunshine Masterplan Vision

VIC Premier

An exciting new vision for the Sunshine Station's surrounds is taking shape with the local community to have their say on planning future transport links and other opportunities for investment.

The Sunshine Station - Developing a Masterplan sets out key project ideas that have been informed by previous public engagement and will help set the direction for future transport connections and development around Sunshine Station.

Those who live in, work from or visit Sunshine can have their say from 8 March 2022 on nine project ideas including improved walking and cycling links over the railway line at Hampshire Road Bridge, new open and mixed-use spaces and a better, more integrated bus interchange.

Almost 200 people have previously provided feedback and this latest survey will help further inform the development of a final Masterplan.

The community can have their say from 8 March 2022 until 10 April at engage.vic.gov.au/sunshine or by visiting public information sessions at Sunshine Street Market on Friday 18 March from 12:00pm-2:00pm or at Sunshine Station on Monday 21 March from 4:00pm-6:00pm.

The Andrews Labor Government has also established a Community Reference Group and already held several meetings to hear from representatives across local business, government and the community about what's important on the future development of the broader Sunshine Precinct.

Invigorated by a host of planned major transport infrastructure investments, Sunshine Station is set to transform into a transport superhub as a key connection point for the regions, Melbourne's CBD and the airport.

Planned upgrades include a new regional platform allowing Bendigo services to stop for the first time, a new second concourse and accessibility improvements as part of Melbourne Airport Rail, and a Western Rail Plan initiative to extend regional platforms to cater for longer VLocity trains.

Construction is only months away from starting to make trains to Melbourne Airport a reality, with utility relocations to start around the middle of this year subject to final approvals.

The Labor Government has invested more than $20 billion in infrastructure in Melbourne's west, including $5 billion in Melbourne Airport Rail matched by the Australian Government.

As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan

"Off the back of major upgrades planned for Sunshine Station itself, we're encouraging people to have their say on how we can best plan for the future of the area around the station - a future transport superhub."

"Whether you walk, ride or take public transport - we're asking locals near Sunshine Station to tell us what's important to them for the future of this key connection in the west."

As stated by Member for St Albans Natalie Suleyman

"Community feedback will be critical to ensuring the planning for the future of the Sunshine Station precinct is done right."
