Construction is kicking off today on the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) facility in Erindale.
The new facility is designed to support the wellbeing and recovery of young Canberrans with welcoming indoor, outdoor and group therapy spaces that reflect the needs and experiences of clinicians, children and families.
Construction of the community-based facility is expected to be complete in late 2027.
The service is being relocated as part of the Northside Hospital Project as it does not need to be located on an acute hospital campus.
The new facility at Erindale will be on a bigger site with a connection to nature, convenient access to public transport, more parking and the capacity to expand into the future.
Current CAMHS programs including the Cottage Day Program, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and the Childhood Early Intervention Program will remain operational while the new facility is under construction to ensure continuity of care.
The CAMHS programs run five days a week and support young people to build confidence, achieve their potential and improve day-to-day functioning.
Works on the new facility will be completed by the Shaw Building Group, a local Canberra company.
