Researchers and industry leaders will explore solutions to cut emissions, boost safety and deliver efficiencies across global supply chains
The drive to make mining and manufacturing cleaner, smarter and more efficient will take centre stage when the International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing and Materials for Sustainable Mining Equipment and Technologies (AMMET 2025) opens in Wollongong on Tuesday 30 September.
Running from 30 September to 3 October, the conference will bring together more than 200 delegates from across Australia and overseas, including leading researchers, industry innovators and policy makers, to showcase technologies designed to cut emissions, improve safety and boost productivity across global supply chains.
With mining and heavy industry under increasing pressure to reduce environmental impacts while maintaining productivity, the conference will showcase advances in:
- Green manufacturing processes and advanced steels
- AI and IoT technologies for safer, smarter mines
- Novel composites and materials for more efficient mining equipment
Conference Chair Distinguished Professor Zhengyi Jiang (pictured above), from the University of Wollongong's ARC Training Centre For Innovative Composites for the Future of Sustainable Mining Equipment said AMMET 2025 will demonstrate how research is delivering real-world solutions.
"From low-emission steelmaking to intelligent safety systems, the technologies being presented are critical to reducing the environmental footprint of mining while improving safety and efficiency," Professor Jiang said.
"This is not just about innovation for its own sake. It's about enabling a sustainable future for industries that are essential to the global economy."
Keynote speakers include Distinguished Professor Gordon Wallace (University of Wollongong, Intelligent Polymer Research Institute), Dr Marc Elmouttie (CSIRO, Sustainable Mining Technologies Program) and leading international experts from China and the USA.
Delegates will also take part in industry visits, highlighting how advanced manufacturing and green mining solutions are already being adopted in the Illawarra and Australia.
AMMET 2025 is expected to strengthen global collaborations between universities, industry and government, accelerating the development of sustainable technologies that benefit not only mining regions, but the wider community and environment.
