A constable from Western Region has been charged following an internal investigation.
The 25-year-old male officer was charged with unlawful assault and two counts of using threatening words in a public place.
The charges relate to an alleged incident that occurred in Hamilton on 19 March 2021, while the officer was off duty.
He has been bailed to face court at a later date.
