Construction is now underway for a major redevelopment of the Gwynne Park Pavilion, delivering modern facilities for one of Armadale's most important sporting precincts.
Supported by a $1.36 million investment from the Cook Labor Government's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, the project will transform the existing pavilion into a contemporary, fit-for-purpose facility that meets the needs of a district-level sporting complex.
Located within the City of Armadale's largest sporting and recreation reserve, the new pavilion will provide modern amenities that better support local cricket and football clubs while catering for the area's growing population.
Designed to be more accessible and inclusive, the new pavilion will feature gender and disability-friendly facilities, creating a welcoming environment for participants, volunteers and spectators of all ages and abilities.
The $8 million redevelopment is also supported by the City of Armadale, WA Cricket Association, the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, WA Football, the AFL and the WA Football Facilities Fund.
These works form part of the Cook Labor Government's PlayOn WA initiative, which is providing investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure across Western Australia.
PlayOn WA will deliver 2,030 infrastructure items by 2030, providing long-term benefits for communities across the State.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Gwynne Park pavilion has been at the heart of Armadale's sporting community for decades and we're ensuring it can continue to serve local clubs and families into the future.
"This redevelopment will deliver modern and inclusive facilities that meet the needs of the community and support more women and girls to get involved in football and cricket.
"The Cook Labor Government is proud to be investing in quality community sporting facilities like this right across our State that bring people together and help Western Australians stay active."
As stated by Armadale MLA Dr Tony Buti:
"This is a significant investment in one of Armadale's most important community sporting hubs.
"Local clubs and families deserve facilities that are modern, accessible and built for the future, and that's exactly what this redevelopment will deliver.
"This project demonstrates the Cook Labor Government's commitment to investing in the infrastructure our growing communities need."
