Safety Beach residents and visitors will soon be able to appreciate new public toilets and change rooms at the Safety Beach foreshore.

The project was delayed in February when the contractor experienced unforeseen hardship issues and was unable to continue the works.

We are pleased construction has begun again and we are anticipating works to be completed by November 2022.

During the construction period, portable public toilets have been installed and will remain in place until the new facilities are ready for use.

The soon-to-be $600,000 reconstructed facility will meet the needs of the popular foreshore precinct and feature:

  • two unisex accessible / family change rooms
  • two unisex ambulant change rooms
  • two male ambulant change rooms
  • two female ambulant change rooms
  • two external wash down stations
  • a drinking station
  • two carparking spaces
  • footpath connecting to the carpark spaces.

Quote attributable to Seawinds Ward Councillor Antonella Celi:

"The long awaited, new public toilet and change rooms will be located in the heart of Safety Beach, close to the playground, beach and shops for locals and visitors to access while enjoying a day out on the Peninsula. The project is through the Shire's Public Toilet Strategy that encourages the upgrade of public toilet facilities across the Mornington Peninsula."

Quote attributable to Seawinds Ward Councillor Debra Mar:

"This much-needed upgrade also falls under the Safety Beach Coastal Master Plan 2016. The Shire will be funding the project as part of its annual capital works budget to improve amenity and comfort of those who visit the area."

Quote attributable to Seawinds Ward Councillor Kerri McCafferty:

"The new facility has been designed to be environmentally efficient. Energy consumption will be kept low through high levels of natural daylight and passive ventilation. The design has incorporated weather resistant materials for longevity and minimal maintenance, keeping our long-term environmental impacts lower."
