Kiama is incredibly proud to have achieved the Top Tourism Town silver medal at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards in Canberra on Tuesday morning
For the third year in a row, Kiama was recognised as a national finalist but just fell short of the top award.
Representing New South Wales following its third NSW Top Tourism Town title, Kiama was among a strong field of regional destinations including Kununurra (Western Australia), Stanthorpe (Queensland), Tanunda (South Australia), Devonport (Tasmania) and Echuca (Victoria).
Stanthorpe was named the 2026 winner at the awards breakfast at Parliament House.
Mayor Cameron McDonald, who attended the awards ceremony with Council's Tourism and Economic Advisory Committee chair Councillor Matt Brown and CEO Jane Frawley, said Kiama could hold its head up high after being recognised on the national stage for three years in succession.
"Even though we didn't take home the national award, this is still a proud moment for our community to finish runner-up and return home with the silver medal," Mayor McDonald said.
"While many visitors might come for the famous Blowhole, they quickly discover there is so much more to Kiama.
"Our coastline, villages, food, events, local businesses and welcoming community all play a part in creating memorable experiences.
"To see Kiama up on the national stage alongside some of Australia's most-loved regional destinations is incredibly special."
Kiama will enter the NSW Tourism Hall of Fame next year as a reward for its hat-trick of wins at state level.
Cr Brown said Kiama's rise to prominence on the national tourism stage was the result of a collective effort behind the visitor experience.
"Quality tourism doesn't happen by accident," he said.
"It comes from passionate operators, local businesses and good leadership, as well as volunteers and community members all contributing to something bigger.

"What I love about these awards is that every finalist has a different story to tell. You have wine regions, outback destinations, river towns and coastal communities, and somehow little old Kiama was standing there among them.
"Just getting the chance to represent NSW on the national stage was incredibly special. To share that stage with five outstanding regional destinations from across Australia was an honour."
Kiama's submission captured the experiences locals know and love, from ocean pools and coastal walks to village cafés, boutique stays, local events and the simple pleasure of slowing down by the sea.
