Construction set to begin on Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex netball pavilion

  • Premier unveils site plans for $2.6 million pavilion project to support netball in the Wanneroo area
  • Work set to begin next month on the project, fulfilling a $500,000 election commitment by the State Government
  • Project jointly funded by the City of Wanneroo and the McGowan Government

Premier Mark McGowan today visited the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex to unveil site plans for the brand new Wanneroo Netball Association Pavilion.

Construction of the $2.6 million facility will begin in February, thanks to a $500,000 election commitment led by Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton. The remainder of the project is funded by the City of Wanneroo.

The important community sporting project will deliver improved toilets, change rooms, umpires' rooms, a first aid room, storage and kitchen facilities. The successful contractor for the project will be announced shortly.

More than 6,000 club members and 500 teams will benefit from the improved facilities - with the upgrades set to alleviate the current shortage of change room space, and support increased local participation in the sport.

It is expected that the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex project will be completed in time for the 2020 netball season.

As noted by Premier Mark McGowan:

"Grassroots sport builds healthier, more connected communities - and I commend the Member for Wanneroo for fighting hard for this project.

"My Government is focused on ensuring Wanneroo and its surrounding suburbs have quality places to play sport and keep healthy.

"Literally thousands of players use this facility week in, week out - and I'm proud to help deliver these important upgrades for the local community."

As noted by Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton:

"As an avid netballer myself, I know how important it is for local teams to have access to high-quality sporting facilities.

"Building the Wanneroo Netball Association Pavilion was one of my key election commitments, and I'm glad the McGowan Government and the City of Wanneroo have been able to work together to make this project happen.

"I'm looking forward to spending many Saturdays, once our new facility is up and running, cheering on our local teams and hopefully seeing many new faces getting involved."

As noted by City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts:

"On behalf of the City of Wanneroo community, I would like to acknowledge and thank the State Government for their $500,000 contribution to this much-needed project.

"The Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex is an important facility for north metropolitan Perth with tens of thousands of people and many sporting clubs using the amenities annually.

"The City of Wanneroo is committed to working collaboratively with its partners and local stakeholders to ensure this wonderful facility continues to meet community needs, now and into the future."
