Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced that extensive construction works at Kinross College and Kinross Primary School are underway.
The $2.5 million upgrades at Kinross College include performing and visual arts areas, textiles and food technology classrooms, science laboratories, a library, lecture theatre, beauty therapy room, and external improvements.
Construction group Solution 4 Building was awarded the project in March and started works at the college in April. The upgrades are expected to be completed by October 1, 2020.
Families at Kinross Primary School will benefit from a brand new $1.6 million Early Learning Centre. The Centre will include multi-purpose rooms, offices, a kitchen, store rooms and toilets for students and staff.
The new Centre will provide out-of-hours and vacation care, playgroup for children up to four years old and facilities for health services.
Rivett Construction Services is building the new facilities, having started work at the school in March. Works are expected to be completed for the start of Term 4, 2020.
The State Government is investing $452.8 million over this financial year to improve infrastructure in public schools and create jobs.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"There's no doubt this has been a challenging school year for all Western Australian students, and the community's response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been incredible.
"As we begin the process of economic recovery in WA, it's important that we continue to invest in our schools to ensure that students are learning in the best possible environment.
"This is a major milestone in an important local election commitment and these upgrades will significantly improve two great local schools."
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"I'm sure the whole community will be excited to see that construction is underway at both Kinross Primary School and Kinross College.
"The Kinross community is very popular with young families and I'm sure they will welcome the new Early Learning Centre at Kinross Primary School when it opens in October 2020.
"Students at the nearby Kinross College will soon be able to further their studies in specialist areas such as textiles, performing arts and food technology in state-of-the-art modern facilities."
