Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers The Honourable Ann Leahy
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering for South West Queensland by opening consultation to review and replace the Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan, as part of the Watertight Water Security Plan.
  • Feedback from communities, industries and stakeholders will help shape a new plan to support long-term water security and sustainable water management.
  • The Crisafulli Government is boosting water security across regional communities, after the former Labor Government left Queensland with ageing water infrastructure, a $6.5 billion cost blowout in water projects, botched dams, failing regional water security and the most expensive water bills in the nation.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering for South West Queensland by opening the first round of community consultation to review and replace the Warrego, Paroo, Bulloo and Nebine water plan.

The review is part of the Crisafulli Government's Watertight Water Security Plan to review all water plans to boost agriculture productivity and reduce costs for families, to boost affordability and reliability of supply.

Water storage in Queensland dams decreased by almost half a million megalitres under the former Labor Government, due to underinvestment and lack of proper maintenance in the dam network.

The former Labor Government also failed to keep Queensland's water planning framework on track, leaving important reviews overdue and creating uncertainty for regional communities and industries.

The review will help ensure water management reflects the changing needs of the region, while supporting economic growth, agricultural production and environmental sustainability.

Residents, councils, industry groups, community organisations and stakeholders across the water plan area, including Augathella, Charleville, Cunnamulla, Morven, Bollon, Eulo, Quilpie and Thargomindah, are encouraged to have their say.

Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said local input would play a critical role in shaping the future of water management across South West Queensland.

"The Crisafulli Government is delivering for South West Queensland by putting local communities at the centre of water planning and ensuring decisions are informed by the people who rely on these water resources every day," Minister Leahy said.

"Labor failed to keep important water plan reviews on track, but we are getting on with the job of delivering the long-term water security regional communities deserve.

"Water is the lifeblood of South West Queensland, supporting local jobs, agriculture, businesses and communities, and this review will help ensure these resources are managed sustainably for generations to come.

"Whether you're a farmer, a business owner, or a resident, your voice matters. This is your chance to have your say on how we manage one of our most vital resources."
