- Kalgoorlie-Boulder youth to benefit from new health and leisure facilities
- Precinct largely funded by $4.2 million from Cook Government
- Facilities include new skate park, pump track and social spaces
Young people in Kalgoorlie-Boulder are set to benefit from a new youth precinct in the Goldfields town that will provide avenues for positive health and leisure activities.
Goldfields-Esperance Minister David Michael, City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor Glenn Wilson and Youth Councillors officially opened the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Precinct this afternoon.
Minister Michael and attendees were treated to a first look at the much-anticipated youth precinct project when they toured the site after the official opening.
The redeveloped precinct incorporates the newly refurbished skate park, a new pump track, social spaces, and a versatile multipurpose court along with lighting, shaded seating areas and landscaped surrounds, creating a welcoming community hub that encourages active and healthy lifestyle.
The design has been informed by extensive youth engagement and guided by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council, providing an inclusive space with a wide range of sport and recreation options.
The project received support through a $2.1 million State Government election commitment, $2.1 million Lotterywest grant and a contribution from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
As stated by Goldfields-Esperance Minister David Michael:
"The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Precinct is an investment in young people and the future of the Goldfields community.
"This project has been made possible thanks to the strong partnership between the State Government, Lotterywest and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and it will provide a lasting benefit for local families and youth.
"The State Government is proud to have delivered on its 2021 election commitment, alongside Lotterywest and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder."
Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
"I stood in this spot in 2020 and made this election commitment announcement.
"It came after talking to so many parents and youth about what we needed in this city.
"I'm absolutely thrilled that we are finally able to open this amazing youth facility and I can't wait to see the kids enjoying the space."
