Cook Gov't Invests in New Schools, Major Upgrades

  • Cook Government invests $230 million to deliver quality education infrastructure for Western Australian students, teachers, and families

The Cook Government is investing $230 million to deliver new public schools in Western Australia's fast-growing suburbs, along with major upgrades to existing schools.

As part of the funding, $57.2 million has been allocated to provide major upgrades to at Como Secondary College and Karrinyup Primary School, delivering on 2025 election commitments.

New investment of $30 million will deliver major upgrades for Como Secondary College, including a new sports hall and conversion of the old sports hall into a performing arts centre.

Karrinyup Primary School's $27.4million upgrade will include a new classroom block, refurbishment of the existing kindergarten and pre-primary teaching block, refurbishment of the administration, and relocation of the hardcourts.

An additional $21.8 million has been allocated to progress planning for the remaining election commitments with projects to deliver major upgrades across 15 schools. A further $7.9 million investment at Applecross Senior High School will provide a double storey learning hub building with eight classrooms.

It builds on more than $1 billion in school maintenance and minor works delivered since 2017 to ensure Western Australia's public schools continue to meet the learning needs of students and staff.

Education Minister Sabine Winton today also announced that an additional $140 million has been committed to deliver four new primary schools in 2028, including:

  • Eglinton North (Butler)
  • Yanchep East (Butler)
  • Treeby East (Jandakot)
  • Vasse West (Vasse)

In preparation for new primary schools in Byford and Anketell to open in 2029, $2.8 million has been allocated to begin planning.

These works are vital to maintaining modern and wellequipped learning environments where students can thrive and teachers can do their best work.

It forms part of the Cook Government's record investment of $5.9 billion in education infrastructure, with 30 new primary schools and eight secondary schools opened since 2017.
