An attentive woman has aided in the recovery of her brother's car after it was stolen from their Te Atatū South home in broad daylight on Saturday.
At about 2.30pm, Police received a call from a woman stating she had just seen her brother's vehicle being driven by an unknown woman away from their home on Miltonia Avenue.
Waitematā West Area Prevention Manager, Acting Inspector Nick Salter, says it appears the alleged offender entered the house while the victim was busy gaming on the computer
"The informant was arriving home, only to see her brother's car exiting the driveway.
"Thankfully she was able to provide a detailed description of the female behind the wheel."
Acting Inspector Salter says the victim was gaming in a separate room when he received a phone call from his sister asking if his car was in the driveway.
"He's then checked and it wasn't there.
"The victim's car keys were left on his drawer, so it appear the alleged offender has entered and taken them.
"The Henderson beat team very quickly located the victim's vehicle in Te Kanawa Cresent, Henderson soon after and a female matching the description provided next to it."
He says the woman was swiftly taken into custody.
"It's great to see family looking out for one another, and taking action by reporting what is happening straight away."
A 35-year-old woman will appear in Waitākere District Court today charged with burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
