The national title is the fourth in Big Red men's lacrosse history, with previous titles coming in 1971, 1976 and 1977.

The Big Red were led by All-American attacker CJ Kirst '25, who scored six goals and added an assist. Kirst's final goal gave him 80 on the season, tying the record for the most goals in a single season in NCAA history. Kirst made history on April 26 against Dartmouth when he became the NCAA's all-time leading goal-scorer, with the 225th of his career.

Cornell finished the season at 18-1, with its only loss coming March 8 at Penn State. On May 24, the Big Red avenged that loss with an 11-9 win against the Nittany Lions in the national semifinal.
