Kiama Municipal Council has adopted its 2026-27 Budget, setting out the next stage of Council's financial recovery while protecting the services and facilities the community relies on.
The budget follows the NSW Government's decision to provide Council with an additional year to meet the financial targets set under its Performance Improvement Order.
The extended timeframe allows Council to continue improving its financial position while avoiding the significant service reductions that were considered earlier this year.
Mayor Cameron McDonald said the budget recognised both the progress Council had made and the work still ahead.
"We're not pretending the job is finished because it isn't," Cr McDonald said.
"We've made real progress over the past 12 months, but there's still more work to do to restore Council's long-term financial position."
The budget includes a range of savings and efficiency measures, while work will continue over the coming year to review Council's organisational structure, identify new revenue opportunities and reduce costs where appropriate.
Importantly, the budget allows Council to continue delivering the services residents rely on while maintaining infrastructure and investing in projects that support the Kiama community.
"This budget is about making sensible decisions today so we can build a stronger Council for tomorrow," Cr McDonald said.
"Our community expects us to be honest about the challenges we face, but they also expect us to get on with the job. That's exactly what this budget does."
Council's adopted Delivery Program and Operational Plan outlines the projects, services and priorities that will be delivered over the coming financial year.
