Two men have been charged over the alleged shooting of another man in the states south.
About 11.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 August 2026), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District responded to reports that a 48-year-old man had presented to medical facility on Burns Street, Hillston, with a gun shot wound to the right leg.
The injury is not believed to be life threatening.
Officers were informed that the man had been shot in the backyard of a home on Burns Street where he then walked to the hospital.
Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was arrested in a parked vehicle on Shelly Street.
It will be further alleged that a rifle was seized from within the vehicle.
Crime scenes were established at both the home in Burns Street and the parked vehicle in Shelly Street.
The 36-year-old man was taken to Hillston Police Station and charged with discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, possess unauthorised firearm and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
About 7am today (Thursday 20 August 2026), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District arrested a 42-year-old man on Oxley Avenue, Hillston.
He was taken to Hillston Police Station and charged with discharge firearm etc intend cause grievous bodily harm, possess unauthorised firearm and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
Both men were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 tomorrow (Friday 21 August 2026).
