Territory Road Policing Division Arrests Drug Driver

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Palmerston following a traffic stop that uncovered a large quantity of cash with the driver allegedly testing positive test for a prohibited drug.

At around 10:50am on Wednesday, officers from the Territory Road Policing Division conducted a traffic apprehension on a vehicle in Palmerston for the purpose of drug and alcohol testing.

The driver allegedly returned a positive roadside result for a prohibited drug and was arrested for the purpose of conducting a secondary drug analysis.

Police subsequently conducted a search of the man's vehicle, allegedly locating approximately $108,000 in cash.

The man was conveyed to the Palmerston Watch House, where a secondary drug analysis allegedly returned positive results for a prohibited drug.

Following the apprehension, Officers from the Territory Road Policing Division and Dog Operations Unit executed a search warrant on the driver's hotel room where they located a further $29,600 in cash and a quantity of drugs.

The 32-year-old was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court today, and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possessing a Schedule 1 dangerous drug in a trafficable quantity
  • Supplying a Schedule 1 dangerous drug in a commercial quantity
  • Driving with a prohibited drug in his body
  • Driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • Receiving or possessing tainted property
  • Breach Bail

Investigations remain ongoing.
