South Australia Police conducted Operation High Impact F5 between 7 and 16 August.
The statewide road safety operation focused on the Fatal Five behaviours known to contribute to road trauma and death; drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, dangerous driving and failing to wear seatbelts.
During the 10-day operation, 13,596 drivers were alco tested, with 119 drink driving detections.
A further 1,437 drug tests were conducted and, disappointingly, 171 drivers returned positive results.
Police detected 1,112 speeding offences during the operation, which involved both enforcement and education of drivers.
A total of 36 people were identified not wearing a seatbelt.
Police also detected 91 mobile phone offences and a further 960 distraction-related offences, demonstrating too many drivers continue to put themselves and others at risk.
During the operation, police impounded 157 vehicles, and 246 drivers were issued with an immediate loss of licence.
Unfortunately, during the operation period, one person lost their life and 16 people were seriously injured on South Australian roads.
Superintendent Shane Johnson, Officer in Charge, Traffic Services Branch said every life lost is one too many.
"Our thoughts remain with those affected by road trauma.
"Every driver who chooses not to drink and drive, every motorist who slows down, every person who puts their phone away, and every passenger who wears a seatbelt contributes to safer roads for all South Australians", said Superintendent Johnson.
