Cloud Band Sweeps Across Australia

BOM
Hello, Sarah from the Bureau here with your national weather forecast for tomorrow. So that's the 21st of August. So we'll start off by taking a look at tomorrow's weather map.

We've got that lingering cloud band extending from the west all the way into the east, with the potential for 10 to 20 mm or so about northern inland parts of New South Wales and south-western parts of Queensland, with showery conditions also continuing throughout the far south-east in those westerly winds. Then out in the south-west, a chilly start with morning fog and frost patches. So let's go around the country now, taking a closer look state by state, starting with Queensland.

In the south-west, we're expecting cloudy conditions with these scattered showers, rain areas and possible thunderstorms that will gradually move eastwards throughout the day. Elsewhere, dry and sunny conditions with just a few very light showers about the exposed east coast, but tending more scattered about the Cassowary Coast. Maximum temperatures mostly in the mid 20s, but grading up to the low 30s as we head up towards the northern tropics.

Much cooler under that cloud band with mid teens expected. For Brisbane, morning fog patches are possible through western areas, then a mostly sunny day, a top of 23 °C. Moving on to New South Wales.

That cloud band will bring those scattered showers, rain areas and possible storms throughout northern and central inland areas, with those showers tending more isolated east of the divide, remaining dry about the far north-east and the south-west, with possible snow showers for alpine areas. For Sydney, a possible early morning shower, then a sunny afternoon, a top of 23 °C. For Canberra, also a slight chance of an early morning shower, clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon and a top of 17 °C.

Moving on to Victoria. It will be a cool day with scattered showers about the north-east ranges and as well about the south-west coast. Isolated showers pretty much elsewhere, but generally near and south of the Great Dividing Range.

For Melbourne, morning fog patches are possible. Then the chance of a shower and a top of 16 °C. Moving on to Tasmania.

Scattered showers throughout western areas, tending more isolated elsewhere. Daytime temperatures expected to be in the mid teens. For Hobart, a cloudy day with showers and a top of 15 °C.

Moving on to South Australia. Morning fog patches are possible throughout the south-west, while morning frost patches are possible about the Flinders District. Isolated light showers about the agricultural areas, mostly about the windward slopes and coasts, while the scattered showers and rain areas across the north will ease during the evening.

For Adelaide, a partly cloudy day with a shower or two and a top of 16 °C. Moving on to WA, we've got those scattered showers, rain areas and possible storms extending from the southern Pilbara into the interior. But for the South West Land Division, a really chilly start with morning fog and frost patches throughout inland areas and just a slight chance of a light shower about that far south coast.

For Perth, possible morning fog patches about the hills and a sunny afternoon. A top of 23 °C. Moving on to the Territory, we've got these scattered showers and possible storms throughout the far south.

Also a risk of a light shower about the coastal areas of the Top End. For Darwin, a slight chance of an early morning shower then a sunny day. A top of 33 °C.

So if you're after a more detailed forecast for your local area, you can head to the bureau's website, app or social media. Otherwise, we'll see you again tomorrow. Bye for now.
