Monash has adopted a new Climate Resilience Plan 2026–2030 to help Council and our community prepare for a changing climate.
The plan is our commitment to working with our community to respond to the impacts of a changing climate, future-proof our places and spaces, and continue to reduce emissions.
It builds on our 2025 net zero milestone and progress around emissions reduction, increased renewable energy use and supporting households to go all electric.
Key priority areas include:
Protecting and enhancing our places and spaces
Designing climate resilient assets and services
Continued reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
Community education, awareness and support - including how to act.
Strong governance and partnerships for a coordinated response to climate impacts
Responding to feedback
Community consultation on the draft Climate Resilience Plan 2026-2030 invited community members in early 2026, to help shape its direction and priorities.
Feedback showed strong overall support for the proposed plan, with key areas of interest being tree canopy and urban development, as well as further support to help reduce financial barriers for residents transitioning to all electric or installing solar and batteries.
Ideas raised by the community will help Council implement the actions in the plan.
Why this plan is important
Monash is already experiencing more frequent and intense heatwaves, warmer nights, severe storms and flooding. This plan sets out how we can better prepare for those impacts across our community.
It will ensure Monash is better prepared to adapt and thrive in a changing climate.
