Council's latest land release approval paves the way for more accommodation to house the city's growing population.
39 allotments have been approved by Council at the January Ordinary Council Meeting, held 24 January 2024.
The development permit for reconfiguring was passed to subdivide a 129ha property at Allambie Lane, Rasmussen.
A spokesperson for Townsville City Council said the move showed the Council was serious about helping to create more housing options for Townsville.
"Housing availability continues to be one of the big issues facing Townsville as more and more people move here," they said.
"A report from the Regional Australia Institute recorded a 500 per cent increase in new residents to our city in the 12 months leading to March 2023.
"Late last year, the Australian Government announced an additional 500 Australian Defence Force personnel will be stationed in Townsville, placing further demand on our housing market.
"Supporting developments like this will help make more housing stock available for people keen to call Townsville home," they said.
Council has approved more than 240 residential lots for development so far this financial year and continues to work with its planning and development team to streamline the process as much as possible.
"Townsville is increasingly becoming a more attractive place to invest and develop, and we are seeing more interest from developers wanting to build more houses here.
"Council will continue to work as constructively as possible with anyone wanting to invest in Townsville.
