Council Awaits Report on Greenwell Point Wharf

Council is awaiting the findings of a structural engineering report on Greenwell Point Wharf following concerns raised by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) regarding the structural integrity of the facility.

A detailed assessment of the wharf has been completed and findings are anticipated by the end of this month to determine if any restrictions need to be implemented for safety reasons.

"The Greenwell Point Wharf is a valued community asset and we understand its importance to residents, visitors and licence holders," said Gary George, Acting Director City Services.

"It is currently operational and we will continue to manage it on behalf of NSW Government Crown Lands in a way that supports public safety as a priority," Mr George said.

"We will carefully consider the findings of the structural engineering assessment in collaboration with the State to determine the most appropriate and sustainable long-term approach for the wharf," he said.

As a precautionary measure while the engineering assessment is being finalised, Council has paused issuing licences to new applicants for the wharf, and licence renewals beyond June 2027 will be subject to the findings of the engineering assessment.

Council will continue to work with TfNSW regarding any potential recommendations which may include reducing load limits or decreasing the size of heavy vehicles accessing the wharf until the structural engineer's report is received.
