Council Connect 10 October

Hello. My name is James, and this is the weekly Council Connect video.

A reminder that the kerbside green waste cleanup starts Monday 13 October and runs until Friday 17 October across Dungog, Clarence Town East Gresford, Gresford, Paterson, Martins Creek and Vacy.

If you have any, please remember to put your green waste out this weekend ready to be collected. Accepted items include branches and prunings up to 1.8m long and 250mm thick, lawn clippings and vegetation in sturdy cardboard boxes, bundles tied neatly with rope or string (not wire)

Please keep piles tidy and off the footpath. Up to two cubic meters per property is allowed, and it's a great excuse for a spring garden cleanup with this awesome weather we're having.

There are also a lot of great movies at the James Theatre to round out the school holidays. Tonight they'll be showing – Jaws (M) – a Flashback Friday classic for movie buffs. On Sunday the 12th October - Get Rhythm: The Johnny Cash & June Carter Story – live music celebrating two legends. And next weekend, on the 18th, we have The Roses (MA15+) – a clever Australian comedy not to miss. Visit the James Theatre website for tickets and full details.

And news from the library. A big thank you to Shane Burt, who's donated another batch of her beautiful handmade bookmarks for children to take home with their books. Shane makes them from offcuts of her Boomerang Bags — a true local legend helping reduce waste and brighten young readers' days!

And next week's Storytime will feature a very special guest — Council's General Manager, Gareth Curtis, reading "The Style Secrets of Gareth McGreen." That is from 10:30am next Wednesday morning at the library. So come along for story review, smiles and lots of fun.

One thing out of Council is that the state government recently released its Hunter Strategic Integrated Transport Plan after much advocacy by the Council. In the short term, the plan includes, over the next five years, a Dungog, Clarence Town, and Raymond Terrace long-distance bus service, something that I've been really excited about. Council and I met with Minister Jenny Aitchison a number of times now, and I'm really keen for when it does go ahead with the plans, and yeah, transport for Clarence Town! That's all from me.
