Hello and welcome to this week's Council Connect with Cr Alexandria Carruthers joining you from C-Ward, just out past Gresford. The sun is shining, and there have been some cold nights lately, but warmer days, which have been lovely.
To kick things off with our Council Connect update this week, we've got our free tree giveaway, which ends today. It's been a huge success. We know trees are very important to us all here in Dungog. So thank you to everyone who's taken up the opportunity to redeem a tree and plant it in our beautiful shire.
Most outlets have sold out, and at this stage, it's just Riverdene Nursery that has a few trees left in stock, and that ends today. So if you've got a spare five and you haven't got your tree, jump in the car and run to Riverdene before it's too late.
And speaking of running, don't forget that Run Dungog is happening this weekend as well, at the Common. You can do 5, 10, 20, or 40 kilometers if you're feeling extra adventurous and energised. I'll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines.
Next on the agenda is the permanent closure of Durham Street at Clarence Town. As a reminder for everyone travelling through Clarence Town, starting Monday, August 10, Durham Street at the Duke Street intersection will be permanently closed as the next stage of the Clarence Town Bridge project gets underway, rehabilitating the old Clarence Town Bridge. That stage is being undertaken with Transport for New South Wales as part of that funding, so the bridge remains an asset within the community.
And then, last but not least, one for the diary is AGOG, which is coming up at the end of the month. It's crazy to think we're already at the 7th of August. Where has the rest of the year gone? But AGOG kicks off on the 28th and the 29th, so put that in the calendar. That's at The James Theatre. They've got their early-bird tickets on sale at the moment, so there's good value at $20 per film before it jumps to $25. It's always a great weekend. I've been a few times myself with the family, and we always loved it. I think there was a cat movie last year that we all enjoyed. So I do encourage everyone to get along to that one.
