Council crews continue clean-up effort

Townsville City Council crews continue to help with the clean-up effort by sanitising homes that were impacted by sewage overflows.

Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Les Walker said Council crews were out in force today cleaning homes and properties that have been affected by sewage overflows.

"During any flood sewage can overflow from pump stations as they are positioned in low lying areas of the city," Cr Walker said.

"Council crews are working to get all sewerage pump stations operational again as soon as possible.

"Council's first priority is to clean up homes where sewage entered the living spaces, then properties that had sewage through the garden and finally public spaces such as parks."

Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Cr Russ Cook said Council crews would continue cleaning homes for days to come.

"This is difficult and unglamorous work but our Council crews are out there working to clean up homes that were impacted by sewage overflows," Cr Cook said.

"Council is committed to helping our community get back on its feet and helping residents return to flood-affected homes."
