Council has resolved to adopt and proceed to finalise new planning and heritage provisions for the township of Berry.
Council has been consulting with the community since December 2023 to investigate and prepare a new Development Control Plan (DCP) Chapter for Berry and an associated Planning Proposal to introduce a new Princess Street Heritage Conservation Area (HCA) and additional heritage listings for individual properties.
The proposals recognise Berry's special heritage and character and aim to facilitate development that is sympathetic and responsive to it.
At Tuesday night's Ordinary Meeting Council endorsed the finalisation of the changes, including the heritage listing of additional sites in the Local Environmental Plan (LEP), and new heritage conservation area between the existing Queen Street and Berry Showground heritage conservation areas.
As part of the resolution, Council also agreed to remove 45 Prince Alfred Street as one of the sites proposed for heritage listing.
The new HCA and heritage listings now require the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure's final approval before they are listed in the LEP. The amendment to Shoalhaven DCP 2014 will commence on 24 March 2026.
