Bayside Council has endorsed the name Yarawanga Community Hub and Library for the new community facility at Arncliffe Central site following a resolution at the Council Meeting on 23 September 2026.
The name was proposed by Council's First Nations Advisory Group through a community naming process undertaken to identify a name that reflects the cultural identity, history and heritage of the Bayside area.
Yarawanga means place of meeting, gathering and learning, reflecting the purpose of the facility as a welcoming community destination where people can connect, access services, participate in programs, share knowledge and build relationships.
The new Yarawanga Community Hub and Library is a key component of the Arncliffe Central development and represents a significant investment in community infrastructure. The facility will provide modern library services, community spaces and programs that support learning, connection and wellbeing for current and future generations.
As part of the naming process, Council invited key stakeholders and community representatives to nominate potential names for the facility between 19 May and 31 July 2026. The opportunity was extended to organisations with strong connections to the local community, including the St George Historical Society, Botany Historical Trust and Council's First Nations Advisory Group.
The adopted name reflects Council's commitment to recognising and celebrating the rich cultural heritage and identity of the Bayside community through the naming of significant public facilities.
