Council endorses PB Ronald Reserve Masterplan

The PB Ronald Reserve Masterplan was formally endorsed at last night's Cardinia Shire Council meeting following an extended period of community and stakeholder consultation.

Home to Pakenham Library and Hall, U3A, Pakenham Living and Learning Centre, Pakenham Men's Shed, Pakenham Community garden, SCOPE disability service and the RSL memorial walk, PB Ronald Reserve serves as a community focal point in the heart of Pakenham.

"There's a very strong sense of community ownership of PB Ronald Reserve so it's important we took the time to listen to what the community and stakeholders had to say about the masterplan," said the Mayor, Cr Brett Owen.

"After the final round of consultation, we made a number of changes to the plan taking community feedback into account. Now it's time to get on with the job and move to detailed design for the first stage of the redevelopment," said Cr Owen.

"Thank you to all the community members and groups who have provided input into the masterplan for PB Ronald Reserve," said Henty Ward Councillor, Carol Ryan.

"High quality, well designed public open space developed in consultation with users is key to creating a sense of community pride and connectedness and I know locals will be excited to see progress on this project."

Key features of the new masterplan include:

  • An upgrade and expansion of the existing skate park
  • A new parkour circuit and exercise station
  • A new stage with power for festivals and events
  • Improved lighting, landscape and drainage to support use of the reserve for large events
  • New multi-use courts for basketball, netball, tennis, soccer
  • An additional bowling green and surrounding seating
  • New picnic/BBQ area near the Living and Learning Centre
  • Relocation of the Remembrance Cenotaph and plaques, creating a safer and accessible location for gatherings
  • Upgrades to toilets, furniture, and shelters
  • Improved carparking and planting throughout the reserve

The upgrade of PB Ronald Reserve will be staged over 10 years with the first stage of detailed design for the skate park and parkour circuit expected to kick off this financial year.

"Key elements of the reserve's redevelopment including the skatepark and surrounding facilities will go out for community consultation so there will be further opportunity to have your say," said Cr Brett Owen.
