Council grants COVID recovery monies to business and community

Through The Barossa Council's COVID-19 recovery grant program 34 local small businesses and 19 community groups have this week been granted financial support totalling $103,300.

The cash boost is set to assist the local businesses and groups in the economic and social recovery from the initial COVID shut down period earlier this year.

"We know how integral small business and community groups are to the economic and social fabric of our region and that these grants are the boost needed in the road to recovery," said Mayor Bim Lange.

The grant monies will assist the businesses and groups in COVID-safe operations, undertaking marketing and promotions, developing new business plans or purchasing necessary materials for successful safe operations.

Council received 24 applications from community groups and 49 applications from small businesses seeking a total of $195,974 in financial support.

"Given the total monies sought through the applications was $125,000 more than Council had allocated in this financial year it is clear just how much these businesses and groups need support," said Mayor Lange.

In addition to the COVID-19 recovery grant program Council's Community Assistance Scheme continues to operate with an increase of $150,000 over the next two years with Council to consider an additional COVID-19 recovery grant round in the first quarter of 2021.
